Its family is native to Central and South America
and its domestication is believed to have started in Central Mexico about 7,500 years ago. Red bell peppers, which are currently cultivated all over the world, are still popular because of their sweet flavor that enlivens numerous dishes.
Red peppers are also an excellent source of vitamins A and C. Each 1/2 cup of raw red bell pepper provides 47% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin A and 159% of vitamin C.
